Year 4 Teacher
Welcome to Year 4 at Holy Family with Miss Lawne
We hope that during the year you will enjoy finding out about all the wonderful things we will be learning in our lessons. To keep up to date with what is happening inside our classroom follow us on twitter @HolyFamilyL8_4L
Our topic in Come and See is called Giving and Receiving. We will explore how we give and receive in everyday life and reveal how the Eucharist challenges and enables living and growing in communion. Our next topic is Self Discipline where we will explore why self discipline is important and reveal how we can celebrate growth to new life through self discipline.
In English, our book will be The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith. Through Talk for Writing, we will learn a finding tale and write our own finding tale. We will also be learning about road safety and creating our own information leaflet to share with others.
In maths this half term, we are developing our knowledge and understanding of fractions. We will build on our knowledge from Year 3 and learn to find fractions of quantities, count up and down in hundreths and tenths, recognise decimal equivalents, round decimals to the nearest whole number and compare decimals with the same number of decimal places up to two decimal places. We will apply all this learning through word problems, missing box questions and reasoning and problem solving questions.
It is also extremely important that children practice their times tables every night and get regular practice on Times Tables Rockstars as children have a times tables test in the summer term this year.
Last half term, we were very fortunate to attend KIND to kick start our topic Living Things and their Habitats. We will build on this learning and group and classify living things in a variety of ways.
This half term, we will be learning all about the Tudors. We will be looking at the impact they had on Britain and we also have a very exciting trip planned to Speke Hall on the 12th of March to enhance our learning.
This half term, we will be designing our own webpage using tags and elements. The webpage will be about road safety which links to our English topic.
Year 4 will continue to go swimming this half term so it is important that everyone has a full swimming kit on Tuesdays. This includes an appropriate swimming costume, a swimming cap and a towel.
Should you ever wish to discuss anything about your child, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 4 team in order to arrange an appointment. We will be on the yard every evening or, you can contact the office if you wish to request an appointment.
We look forward to working with your children this year!
