Mental Health & Wellbeing

As a school we are proud of the mental health provision we provide.  Our onsite counselling service works closely with the Mental Health Support Team in Liverpool ensuring that our pupils receive the best care possible.

We are delighted to have been recently awarded Gold Status for Mental Health and Wellbeing by Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools, which acknowledges that, “School leaders and governors have a clear mental health and well-being vision of what they want for the school and this drives decision making.”

We place a huge value on relationships here at Holy Family.  As a Restorative Practice school we understand the importance of building, maintaining and repairing relationships and ensure the well-being of all our pupils is at the heart of everything we do.

For all our pupils to reach their potential, we believe that we need to look after the whole child to ensure that both physiological and emotional needs are met before learning can take place.

We offer a free breakfast club from 8am where all pupils can enjoy a tasty breakfast and enjoy fun activities with their friends.  All pupils have an opportunity to check in with their emotions on entering class in the morning, so that we can put support in place if it is required. We understand the importance of providing a place of sanctuary to all who attend Holy Family.

As a school, who prioritises mental health and wellbeing, we encourage all our pupils to talk about their feelings and as a staff we have all received training on trauma, attachment and restorative practice, and offer support from an onsite counsellor if required.

At Holy Family we have two qualified counsellors who deliver Person-Centred counselling to pupils.  We believe that good mental health and wellbeing is essential for effective learning to take place.  At Holy Family parents and staff can refer a child who may need support with their wellbeing.  After an initial assessment, the correct intervention will be put in place.  At Holy Family we offer the following interventions to ensure that every child can receive the right support for their needs.

  • 1:1 Person-Centred counselling
  • Drawing and Talking therapy
  • Think Yourself Great!
  • Restorative Practice
  • Lego Therapy
  • SAP programme

We also make referrals in addition to working alongside external agencies e.g. CAMHS, in order to support our pupils and external stake holders.

We also have an Educational Mental Health Practitioner who works closely with our pupils and families in order to support the whole family’s mental health and wellbeing.

If you have any concerns regarding your child, or would like to discuss anything with me please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I am on the gate every morning before school begins!
